Entry Requirements
The LRN Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training is suitable for individuals entering the profession or those who have been practicing within the sector without a formal qualification. Candidates must meet one of the following requirements:
a. Three GCSE passes at ‘C’ level standard or higher qualifications (A level), which LRN will consider sufficient for entry.
b. A Level 2 qualification or higher from the UK’s regulated qualifications framework or an equivalent overseas qualification as determined by UK NARIC. The qualification should encompass a similar number of learning hours as the Level 3 Certificate in Education and Training.
c. Applications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. If a candidate does not possess the required qualifications, LRN will consider their employment status and history, with a signed reference letter from employers accompanying the application.
d. Evidence of English language proficiency must be provided.
Knowledge, Skills, and Understanding
No previous knowledge or skills are required. However, a basic understanding of the education and training sector may be beneficial for learners.
Support and Recognition
These qualifications have been developed with input from centers currently delivering or planning to deliver qualifications at this level in Education and Training.
Progression Opportunities
Upon successful completion of the LRN Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training, candidates can pursue:
– Additional qualifications at the same level in Education and Training.
– Higher level qualifications in Education and Training.
– Vocational qualifications in unrelated subject areas.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Refer to LRN’s policy on Recognition of Prior Learning to determine if previously achieved qualifications qualify for exemptions.
Assessment
The qualification is assessed through:
– Assignments.
– Observation of teaching or training (30-minute micro-teaching session with peers).
Guidance on Assessment
To pass a unit, candidates must successfully achieve all learning outcomes and assessment criteria. No externally set written examinations are required for this qualification.
Mode of Delivery
Centers can develop the mode of delivery (full-time, part-time, evening, or distance learning) that best suits candidates’ needs. Regardless of the chosen mode, centers must ensure that candidates follow an appropriate teaching program aligned with the qualification requirements.
Delivery Approach
The delivery approach should be communicative and engaging, emphasizing participation, interactive activities, and materials that contextualize and promote understanding of Education and Training. Tutors must select or develop relevant, up-to-date teaching materials that enable candidates to apply their learning to realistic day-to-day activities. Centers must submit their principal teaching materials for LRN’s approval well in advance of delivery.
