Objective

The LRN Level 3 Award in European Community Development aims to equip learners with the necessary knowledge and skills to understand the core aspects of community development work and analyze how they are applied in practice. Course assignments require candidates to reflect upon the practical implementation of classroom concepts within their job, work experience, or volunteering role.

Candidate Profile

Ideal candidates for the Level 3 Award in Community Development include those who:

a.     Already work in a community development context;

b.    Volunteer or gain work experience in a community development context;

c.     Actively participate in local community groups or organizations.

Entry Requirements

Candidates should meet at least one of the following criteria:

 

       Possess a minimum of 5 GCSEs at A-C grades, including English and Maths; Hold a full Level 2 qualification in a related area, such as youth work; Have completed a Level 2 qualification in Community Development.

       Candidates with extensive prior experience as a community development worker, either paid or voluntary, but lacking academic or relevant vocational qualifications, may be offered a place on the course subject to a Functional Skills assessment.

       Additionally, candidates must have access to a community development job, work experience placement, or volunteering role, involving at least 120 hours of relevant work experience over a minimum of 6 weeks. Candidates must provide evidence that their employer or the community development group/organization hosting their placement has agreed to their participation in the course and will certify the completion of the work experience component.

Introduction

This qualification can be delivered at centers or through distance learning. Centers must demonstrate to LRN, via the center recognition process, that they possess the necessary resources, facilities, and expertise to deliver the program through either method. Centers may apply to offer both options if desired, provided they meet LRN’s criteria, proving they have the means, capability, capacity, and resources (including suitably qualified staff) to deliver the chosen method. Through either method, centers must ensure practical teaching is observed and assessed.

Progression

The integration of the LRN Level 3 Award in European Community Development with work experience makes it especially suitable for individuals seeking employment. Learners can also progress to further or higher education in related fields, such as development studies and youth work.
