Entry Requirements

Qualification Overview
The LRN Entry Level Certificate in ESOL International (Entry 1) (Communication – Speaking and Listening) is a single-unit qualification that assesses speaking and listening components at the CEFR level A1. The recommended guided learning hours are 90.
Qualification Features
This qualification consists of three sections measuring competency in speaking and listening at CEFR level A1.
Level
In line with the ESOL Adult Core Curriculum for Entry 1, LRN Entry Level Certificate in ESOL International (Entry 1) (Communication – Speaking and Listening) is designed to be assessed at CEFR level A1 / Entry 1 (NQF).
Exam Rules
Candidates must:
– Directly answer the examiner’s questions
– Ensure electronic devices are switched off
– Not communicate without the examiner’s approval
– Not seek advice from their paired partner
– Follow the examiner’s instructions
– Failure to comply may result in disqualification.
Results
Exams are conducted by LRN-trained examiners and recorded. Marks are allocated following the LRN Entry Level Certificate in ESOL International (Entry 1) (Communication – Speaking and Listening) mark scheme and securely returned to LRN’s head office. Moderated results are approved by the Lead Moderator and issued to centers within 6-10 working days.
Assessment
The assessment consists of three compulsory sections lasting up to 12 minutes in total, covering introductory questions, obtaining and exchanging information, and participating in a role play. Externally assessed by an LRN examiner, marks are allocated on the assessment day, and all interviews are recorded.
Marking
After the assessment, examiners send all recorded interviews and information to LRN’s head office within two working days. Marks are then submitted to the moderation team.
Moderation
The LRN Entry Level Certificate in ESOL International (Entry 1) (Communication – Speaking and Listening) undergoes moderation in accordance with LRN’s moderation policy.
Certification
Upon successful completion of the assessment, candidates will receive the LRN Entry Level Certificate in ESOL International (Entry 1) (Communication – Speaking and Listening), which certifies their speaking and listening competencies at the CEFR level A1.
